According to this CNN article, "The Republican National Convention is being held later than usual to avoid conflict with the Olympics." That's a little different than the lead-in to 9/11 memorials. Interesting. The Olympics run from August 11th to August 29th, 2004. Olympics coverage gets surprisingly low (The Sydney games got 32% lower ratings than the Atlanta games) ratings, I don't really understand the conflict there.
Anyway, the problem with this is in Alabama is thus, "The GOP won't choose a candidate until September 2 -- two days after Alabama's August 31 deadline to certify presidential contenders." Alabama has a bill in the works, that will have to be voted into law by the democratic legislature, so that candidates can be certified for the ballot on September 5th. Alabama is a historically super conservative state. I don't know if all those folks are smart enough to figure out a write-in vote for Bush. :P I'm cruel.
Friday at 8pm on NBC there's a Tom Brokaw interview with George W. Bush. Set your TiVo.
Posted by mbare at April 23, 2003 05:32 PMI've always wondered how write-ins worked. I never thought there would be a time when someone had the potential to actaully have a lot of write in ballots so I never bothered to really consider this. But now that there is potential for 56.4 percent of the population to write in for Bush I have to wonder...
I'm sure there is more than 1 person named George Bush is the entire United States. How exactly do the poll people know who the vote goes to. What if millions of people voted for John Smith. There must be hundreds of thousands of John Smiths in the USA. How do they know who gets the vote??
anyway thats my stupid question for the day
Posted by: James on April 24, 2003 04:31 PMHmm. I wonder how many write-in votes Mickey Mouse has gotten. I wish they would publish that sort of thing. I bet most precincts don't even keep track.
