This all happened last night around 7pm at the Blockbuster Video that's right next to my building. Please join me in boycotting Blockbuster. I am going to send this store, and the corporate headquarters a letter, just to see if anything happens.
I went to the blockbuster next door to me last night with my girlfriend Tristan to rent a movie.
We stood in the long line for quite a while. When we got to the front, I asked to open an account. I filled out the form with my permanent address, like it asked.. I figured it had to match the ID and the billing address for the credit card. The manger I handed it to came back over and says, "Um. You got a local address?” in a very ridiculous voice that was not his.
I said, "Yeah, but that's my permanent address, like it asks for."
He said, "W-what? You're giving me a headache - just write your local address on there,” still in his idiotic voice.
So I wrote it in an open space separated by commas. He said when I handed it back to him, "You could have put it in the open lines," and then turned to Tristan and said something like, "You put up with this?"
At this point I was getting slightly peeved.
He shook his head, walked back towards his computer, but came back before he got there and said, "You got a local phone number?"
I replied, "No, that's my cell phone. That's the only number I have."
He again said something to Tristan in that voice and I could not understand all of it, "you really..."
He then said to me, "What the crack number is that?"
I start to say, "920--"
He cut in, "--that ain't no nine. That's a seven or somethin’."
He scoffed and said something to Tristan, then walked away from us and said, “Can’t write neither.”
I threw the movie onto the counter and said, "Know what? Just fuckin' forget it."
I started walking away, Tristan said, "Get your cards."
He didn't want to give them (my drivers license and credit card) back to me, so I had to rip them out of his fingers. Then we walked out.
He crumpled up the application, started laughing, threw it somewhere and started laughing.
So what does a guy have to do to get a little customer service?

Posted by: Bricky Brick on January 30, 2005 07:23 PMYeah, remember the guy who threatened to kill me for giving his wife "hard looks?" and I had never even seen his wife, then he came back later that day and apologized, claiming some kind of head injury in the 60s? ...Probably drugs. The crazies always harrass me. :(

Posted by: jef on February 6, 2005 01:16 PMThis is a reply to your post on boycotting Blockbuster. I'm an employee and have been extremely pissed off with my managers pressing me to not offer late fee credits to customers along with lots of other great things happening in the company internally right now. I always try to provide the customers with the best service possible and am never awarded for this....yet the employees that shove promotions up in every customers face gets congratulated on up-selling. Many very good employees are getting fired now under their new "no late fee policy" for having movies out past the due date. even if we are a few hours late with it we get written up. After three time of getting written up for it we get fired for having a late movie. Not to mention under the new program "project store" they are hiring an over abundance of employees so that each employee has less than 10 hours, because with less that 10 hours a week you can't qualify for insurance. ok so here is my proposition for anyone that hates Blockbuster, please help me spread the word around that we are walking out, both customers and employees on march 12th 2005. If you are already boycotting blcokbuster, thank you....but maybe take it a step furter and flyer in your neighborhood with the facts asking others to boycott blockbuster, at least on that one day march 12th. Here is the post that I have been putting on the internet:
Blockbuster Corporation has screwed over it's faithful employees for the last time. This post is for anyone who is tired of taking the day to day crap that ASM's, SM's and DL's and everyone else responsible for these new policies set upon Blockbuster employees. These policies are so obsurd that Blockbuster is firing very reliable, hardworking individuals for no reason what so ever. Many have already been written up or fired for having a movie out past the due date. Accidents happen and that is no reason to fire a good employee. These rules are obsurd. They are cutting our hours, hiring hoards of new drones to keep their heads low and not make a fuss.
Aren't you tired of pretending that nothing is wrong and that things will eventually get better? Aren't you tired of being treated like garbage by a company that should stand by your side? I mean you are what makes this evil corporation stay in business. So what would happen if all of the employees who are fed up and tired of being treated like dirt just walked out on the same night, on one of the busiest nights, Saturday? Blockbuster would be screwed. and who cares anymore if we loose our jobs? We are being screwed over anyway? There are a millions other jobs out there that you can get. We don't need this job and we don't need to take this anymore. We need to stand up for our rights and take back our dignity! The only way things will change is if we make it change.
That is why I am asking every Blockbuster employee that has ever been talked down to, written up unjustly, walked upon by a ASM, SM, DL or higher to take it upon yourself to change things and show Blockbuster that WE don't NEED them, THEY NEED US!!! I am proud to announce that March 12th 2005 is National Blockbuster Walk-out day. If you are sick and tired of your complaints not being heard then stand up, walk out and never come back. This is the day that we take our lives back into our own hands!
And Why not take it a step further if you are willing? Instead of staying at home that day, why not go to work with a sign that tells the public your view. I mean we're going to loose our jobs in the long run anyway, either by quitting because of too few hours or being fired for non-legitimate reasons, why not express your anger and outrage publicly so that Blockbuster pays for their mistake, not just you.
Everybody join with us and Walk out on March 12th 2005 for your future, your sanity and the non-future of Blockbuster corporation!
Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to read this today. If you have any questions, ideas about protests, walk-outs, etc that you would like to stage in your town...please e-mail me at blockbusterwalkout@gmail.com
People like that are edging quite close to the line where it just might be worth taking the punishment for assault in exchange for a chance to beat the guy down.
Posted by: Dep on February 15, 2005 08:41 PMI've been pretty happy with the Blockbuster in Manitowoc, but more and more of my old university friends are swearing by Netflix so maybe I'll try that. Of course it only makes sense if you otherwise spend $12 or whatever it is on movie rentals normally. I don't think I do, now that I have a backlog of Tivo stuff. Mainly because there is so little worth watching in terms of new releases. Of course, I consider myself a movie/TV snob yet laugh at 75% of America's Funniest Home Videos.
